︎ROOMofCHANCE

sp 2016

> in collaboration with Marina Llado & Ary Osorio

This advanced research studio based in Fluxus thought challenges the linear process of design by introducing a matrix of interacting parameters. What emerges is an emphasis on process, with a project birthed at the intersection of various independently researched architectural elements.

Leaving design decisions up to chance and coincidence, the matrix factors of volume, organization, and skin were developed independently along one of the gallery’s three axis, fluctuating and changing along a framework of spatial rules.

A volume is established as the base, a parametric system guiding its organizational growth and the way it invades space and intersects with other volumes.  The skin’s variable opacity permits privacy or exhibition.

QED…an ‘apartment' suspended from the ceiling of an existing gallery, a series of forms intersections, and overlapping, establishing spaces of enclosure, movement, play, rest, and interaction.

What results is a spatial configuration that enables chance encounters programmatically as well as formally.
